I will take your word for that as I had never heard of Ryan Adams, but I'm sure he is a really big star. Somewhere. If you follow this link , you will see that in the UK, this track was rated as the best British song of all time!

1. Oasis - Wonderwall
2. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody
3. Led Zeppelin- Stairway to Heaven
4. The Beatles - Let It Be
5. John Lennon - Imagine
6. Police- Every Breath You Take
7. The Jam- Going Underground
8. Verve- Bitter Sweet Symphony
9. Robbie Williams - Angels
10. The Stranglers- Golden Brown

Now it was not a big sample, and the kids tend to have short memories, but however big Ryan Adams may be with 'alt-country' fans, Rush Limbaugh has a bigger profile than Ryan Adams outside America, and outside America Rush Limbaugh has no profile at all...

That is excellent news about Rush Limbaugh --- at least the stupidity is somewhat contained.

On the list, from a Canadian standpoint at least, the first half dozen things aren't too controversial but your Rush Limbaugh comment could probably be applied to the last four tunes --- I mean, nobody knows who Robbie Williams is in North America.

As for the Oasis/Ryan Adams thing, it's really not a question of the quality of the music but of the reach, and right now Oasis wins hands down. One of these days, though, Ryan Adams is going to be huge.

For what it's worth, Noel Gallagher apparently prefers Ryan's version of Wonderwall to the Oasis version.

Personally I've had a gut full of these Manc T*ats....whining voices and very bad eyebrows are all they are and likely to be. If commercial success equals worth god help us all....mind you he's had quite a lot of commercial success himself, so perhaps I'm asking the wrong person there........A 1 (sucko barfo) and they're lucky to get that!

Sorry for the snark attack, it just hit me. Comparing Ryan Adams and Oasis just seems ridiculous. I LIKE Oasis, even this song. But any single Whiskeytown album kicks the snot out of everything Oasis did. Emphasis on 'DID', while Ryan Adams is one of the hardest workin' dudes in music.

Sorry again for snappin' at ya. Peace.

It's "prophecy", Einstein.

You aren't paying attention. Read the string and get some context.

Oasis has sold 60 million records, Ryan/Whiskeytown a fraction of that. "Star" in this context means a commercial success. Pound for pound, song for song, I'll take Ryan too --- he just has a long way to go to match Oasis' commercial success.

I wonder if it is a reference to George Harrison's Wonderwall Music.

Never mind, a quick check in wikipedia confirmed my suspicions.

You sound like one of those people who refuse to listen to acts you didn't personally discover. Maybe it's time to ignore the 'commercial' stigma and start enjoying music.

Yep, I'm on board, too. A totally pretentious band who were overly full of themselves and then couldn't even get it together enough to perform. How many shows did they cancel because they were fighting? Pleeez....

That is a fascinating abbreviation for "nineties". Usually, I see '90s (the apostrophe indicating that the "19" has been elided), and sometimes incorrectly 90's (not a possessive).

Actually, standard punctuation guides traditionally recommend the use of an apostrophe to indicate a plural with numbers and individual letters ("three n's", or "90's"). In recent years some guides have changed the recommendation to not use the apostrophe with numbers, but it's definitely still acceptable either way.

IMO, "too commercial" should never be a reason not to play a song. Consider the commercial success achieved by some of the artists that are generally highly rated and considered classic.
