The film (about drug addiction) is a must-see (after you've seen it yourself) for anyone who has kids heading into high-school.
The film destroyed me - it was so emotionally exhausting to watch - but I agree that it is an excellent work. A must-see not only for parents, but also teachers, and even older, mature teens (despite the graphic sexuality towards the end of the film). |

Music that I consider too creepy to listen to (and yes, I've SEEN the movie) automatic 10. pharmaceutical drugs are dangerous, kids. DANGEROUS and can destroy your life. |

Kronos Quartet 015. by =GermanCityGirl Kronos Quartet were founded by violinist David Harrington in 1973 in Seattle, Washington. Based in San Francisco since 1978, the Quartet has worked with composers including Philip Glass, Terry Riley, and Steve Reich.
Their collaborations with Clint Mansell on the scores for Requiem for a Dream + The Fountain are simply beautiful. And they have also worked with various musicians including Café Tacuba, Tom Waits, David Bowie, Björk, Dave Matthews, Nelly Furtado, Joan Armatrading, Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails... to name a few!
From L to R: David Harrington (violinist), John Sherba (violins), Hank Dutt (violist), and Jeffrey Zeigler (cello).

One of the subtle tricks that makes the movie powerful is how Aronofsky times the motion on the screen to the beat of the music in certain places.

Film is brilliant. Probably Aronofsky's best so far, although The Wrestler is a strong contender, too. I don't remember the soundtrack very well, but cheers to who pointed out that this is not the original version used in the film. |

I don't know the other version, but I'm digging your articulate comment. Thanks. |

Perfect for the LotR trailer is was performed for, not so perfect as a stand-alone tune. A yawning 5.

This isn't Lux Aeterna from the Requiem of a Dream soundtrack, this is a rearranged, longer, more bombastic version that was created for the trailer of Lord of the Rings. It's called Requiem for a Tower (says wikipedia), and in my humble opinion it's not half as good as the original.

I get chills whenever anything is played from this soundtrack. I just watched the movie for the first time this week, mostly based on the comments here. An astounding and "eye-opening" movie, for sure.

Inasmuch as Requiem For A Dream is a movie I really enjoyed, and inasmuch as I have a hard time dissociating this music from the movie (such that when I hear it, it triggers a number of the movie scenes in my mind), I have no problem with this tune at all.
We play Radio Paradise in the office and as this was playing, a couple of people commented: "This is a good set of music they've been playing today." An unsolicited testimonial.

Oh, this Lux Aeterna. I popped on hoping it was Ligeti's. Maybe next time.
