Michael Hutchence was a fantastic singer. And they're going to try to replace him with someone they get from this bizarre reality-TV audition show...
I never watched the show, and having no preconceptions about the new singer worked in my favor as I heard (here on RP) a song with the new guy and I quite liked it. Wasn't INXS, but if you think of them as a different band it's not half bad. The song was "Afterglow". |

I used to respect INXS music when I was a young teen, I like many songs of them even if I've never been a proper fan of them.... the death of Michael shoked me at the time... but the SAD commercial operation around the choice of the new singer really disgust me!

I agree with AMG's review. I bought this album not long after it came out and have been surprised and impressed at how well it has aged. It's very consistent, without any filler.
My only complaint is the last song, which is nearly unlistenable. |

I'm a huge INXS fan and I think this was the last innovative album they made before Michael's death. You can definitely tell that the band was trying to branch out and embrace some new ideas. For that alone, it's a great listen, but it also has some classic tracks like "Not Enough Time" (excellent performance and production) and "Men and Women" (darker than you expect from INXS).

actually the new singer isn't horrible, it's just the song they did (i will agree, the whole way of finding him wasn't what I would have expected from the band) |

Yes, the INXS reality show was a bit of a joke. But I will admit to watching it and I'm glad I did. I was never a huge fan of INXS back in the day, not sure why not. But watching that show reintroduced me to the band and I realized how many great songs they had. I went out and bought a couple of their CDs immediately, as I'm sure a lot of other watchers did as well. However, I have no interest in the "new" version of the band. In my opinion, it's just not INXS without Michael... RIP.

I can't imagine it was fun to watch. This whole charade must have Hutchence's naked body spinning in the ground. I can't think of a worse way to tarnish the legacy of the band. What a shame. |

The critics trash this, all INXS & Michael, but a lot of us like their stuff.
This lead singer contest is nothing if not revolting.

Michael Hutchence was a fantastic singer. And they're going to try to replace him with someone they get from this bizarre reality-TV audition show. How desperate are the remaining members of the band to get back in the big time?
Makes me wistful for the days when all you had to do was stand at the crossroads and sell your soul to the man in black for rock stardom. Seemed a lot cooler, and cleaner.
