I might enjoy this song more minus the laugh track. Its amusing the first one and half times after which it just destroys what could be a decent song. The fact that its been played to death on RP and broadcast radio doesn't improve my impression.

Sounds to me like they're trying to hard. Fun enough, anyway, for a mash.

I really like this tune, I've been meaning to pick up the disc.
The video is pretty slick too. |

OK, to enlighten thou who art sitting in the dark... (i.e. States-side :D )
Gorillaz is not a "band" as such, but a project by Blur lead singer Damon Albarn. Yes it is rip-off - conceptually, similar to Fatboy Slim - you can be assured that royalties are paid as they are due.
So, in essence, this is an artistic fun side project by a member of a band. Part of the project are the videos as well as incorporated samples etc., and the whole thing should be viewed as such.
Now, if you don't like the music please do comment! Also, as has been stated over and over again in various threads, the fact that a tune is being played on other channels is no argument not to play it here. Any song should be valued on its own merits and not on how successful it is commercially. Otherwise, we'd loose most of the classic stuff we all come to love so much here - most of this has been commercially successful in the past.
Just my 2 Euro cent worth...

YES! I remember. STARING AT THE SUN. If George Harrison can get sued over Sweet Lord, U2 could easily win for this ripoff. |

Seeing as this is pure Billboard top-20 material (it's #14 this week), would you please play this less often?
I'm sure Evil-doers clearchannel are playing this song's brains out as it is.

eeeehm ------- your statement has nothing to do with Gorillaz and/or this tune. This is nothing like rap or hip-hop.
And concerning the "understandability" of lyrics, all I have to say is back in the days of old-style Genesis, Peter Gabriel was hailed for his cryptic lyrics... seems different measures are used, depending on how revered the artist is.
Personally, I never listen to the lyrics, not being a native speaker of English 80-90% of lyrics elude me anyway. I like songs mostly for the music - if I want nice verses I dig out a book with good poetry. (and yes, I DO that.) But hey, that's just me. :D Different strokes and all that... |

This is getting a lot of play time, so I'm sure many Americans know what it all means and might be able to translate this loosely connected series of short English-like phrases. I even lived in the U.S. for many years, throughout the sixties and into the seventies, studied there, traveled 46 of 50 states, and learned to speak English quite well. Yet I fail. I wonder if others do as well.
Who gives a shit? Its got a good beat, and you can dance to it. |
