Whatever happened to his vaunted project to cut an album for all 50 states?

Couldn't agree more with all of that! Casmi Pulaski Day is my all time fav from him! |

Sufjan reminds me of the main character in Rushmore, except that he's taken over the band class, locked the teacher out, and is using his peers to bring his crazy ideas to life. I also love the Steve Reich/Phil Glass touches on this album.

I generally don't like Sufjan Stevens, but I find I like this very much on second listen. However, the album cover still annoys; or should I say illannoys!

This song reminds me of Elbow. It has that dense, intricate kind of Elbow arrangement. |

Sufjan's music seems to inspire love or hate. What I've heard of this album puts me distinctly in the latter category. His trembly, fearful quavering is mostly to blame for that.

More than a thousand ratings. Seems most of us admire his quirkiness and creativity. Not for everyone's taste, no. But for most of us.

If this song of Stevens' stays in rotation, it may finally become my first 1. Since RP seems to think a lot of him I want to be generous. Alas, other of his songs have an equal, possibly even superior, chance to become my first 1. Just plain lousy, imo. I want to find a shred of a redeeming quality to keep it at a 2..

Don't know how I'd feel about it if I hadn't heard a long interview delving into his writing and production process. Kind of like a hand set letterpress card. I've grown to like it a lot. Opinions vary. |
