Yep! They're trying to have smart lyrics, but the line really only suggests that most people who have souls are soldiers. (And inversely that it's an exception to the rule to have soul and not be a soldier!)
I think I well summed this up with the following:
"I've got a butt, but I'm not a butler"
This song is weak. |

This is a hit?! I guess that says it all about "top 40." |

While the "I got soul, but I'm not a soldier" lyric makes me cringe, musically it's quite enjoyable. Certainly better than the first single "Somebody Told Me" which turned me off to The Killers until this song...

Ah yes, a catchy beat with a jumble of words thrown together that are utterly devoid of meaning and depth. Nothing but an empty, soulless and pointless waste of fucking airtime. If this is indicative of the quality of the rest of that album, I'm very glad I did not give in to impulse and pick it up.

If I was a soldier, and had some soul, I would shot this soul less dribble off the playlist

Kinda has an 80-90's feel to it (Cure... Echo... etc)

Downloaded the album from iTunes after I heard this song on RP. The album is quite the guilty pleasure and makes excellent tunes for the lunch hour bike ride.

I agree. I hate that I love it. I heard it while I was on the job the other day and the build up "soldier" bit spoke to me. Catchy-goodness!

What I hate most about this song is I like it. It plays me like a fiddle with all the formulaic crap that I can't help but love and I don't care.

decent much maligned pop rock with some much needed roll in it. Relax, y'all, it's just music.

So have you figured out now that it's not an advertising channel? lol (Though I've bought several CD's based on hearing artists here) |
