oh no, they're giving the Buzzcocks the Cowboy Junkies treatment.....drainage of all emotion with castration. Pete Shelley would be PISSED!

I'll give her some props for having "Let It Be" by The 'Mats and some Nick Drake in her record collection, but I'd still rather hear any of the sixteen cuts mysteryplane has suggested via his photo below:

 Side one
  1. "Orgasm Addict" (Devoto, Shelley) - 2:00
  2. "What Do I Get?" (Shelley) - 2:52
  3. "I Don't Mind" (Shelley) - 2:16
  4. "Love You More" (Shelley) - 1:47
  5. "Ever Fallen in Love?" (Shelley) - 2:39
  6. "Promises" (Diggle, Shelley) - 2:34
  7. "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" (Shelley)- 3:09
  8. "Harmony in My Head" (Diggle) - 3:06

Side two

  1. "What Ever Happened To?" (Dial, Shelley) - 2:12
  2. "Oh Shit!" (Shelley) - 1:34
  3. "Autonomy" (Diggle) - 3:41
  4. "Noise Annoys" (Shelley) - 2:49
  5. "Just Lust" (Dial, Shelley) - 2:58
  6. "Lipstick" (Diggle, Shelley) - 2:36
  7. "Why Can't I Touch It?" (Diggle, Garvey, Maher, Shelley) - 6:32
  8. "Something's Gone Wrong Again" (Shelley) - 4:29

I agree the Buzzcocks version is a classic

What?  And this made the cut?

I just checked and there are NO Buzzcocks on the RP playlist.  My blood's beginning to boil.

I'm trying to be objective about this version, but I have to say the original is so great that it's hard to love this cover. Pete's desperation vocal lends so much to the song lyrics and music, while this cover is, for lack of a better word, mild. It doesn't elevate the song or make me want to hear it again.

Every time I hear this version it just makes me turn off RP to listen to the Buzzcock's version because it is a song filled with songiness and fantastivity. Puleeze, if you're not going to play the original, don't mock me by playing this version.

I've never heard the Buzzcocks version...but I've heard Billy Talent's and well...it's quite different from this one. As in it is sooo much better.
Sorry Thea, nothin' personnal...

The original is a slice of punk pop perfection.

I agree with your point, and often covers are better than the original, but IMO not in this case. I feel myself wanting the song to speed up to its proper tempo, to be as arousing as the Buzzcock's original which is about illicit attraction and sex and lust and excitement. When yer woman sings "if I start a commotion" in that languid, slow tempo, excitement is the last word that comes to mind - torpor more likely. I just feel like shaking her shoulders vigorously to wake her up. 10 from the Nottingham jury for the classic original, 4 for this cover.

+1 for hearing the original! And IIRC Fine Young Cannibals did a fine cover in the late 80's... But damn, Buzzcocks rule!

Why doesn't RP have any Buzzcocks' songs in its library?

I'll say it again, mute button on. Shame to not play the original. What's next, Clay Aiken sings "London Calling"?

weird; because the vocal cadences are set up for a punk song, not this easy listening style.
I'd change the rythms, if I were her. A LOT.
