Hmm, ok, I like this song more and more. Man, Gilmour's solos are soooo full of emotion.

Never was a Pink Floyd fan though. Their music always struck me as just too self-absorbed and self-pitying. I always wanted to tell them to get some therapy and stop their whinging.

That's the Waters influence of the band.

Man ,Pink Floyd was just on a couple hours ago.I guess since this is solo it circumvents the spirit of the 4 hour rule.
But once a day is quite enough, thanks.

Call me crazy, but I think Gilmour's guitar work on this song is right up there with anything he did with Floyd. I absolutely love his style, which really shines on this track. He doesn't need to play a million notes to express himself. 10.

(To give credit where due, Wright's work in later offerings was exceptional, as always.)

Amen, and remember how Wright was able to sneak it in during that breakfast scene in Live at Pompeii: "Yes, there are occasionally...frictions... Right, well, as long as we are all agreed that Roger Waters is God Almighty, then everything is okay within the band..."
PF was so big these guys may never get out from under its shadow, but even still, I think each of them still shines like a crazy diamond...

As a rabid Floyd fan, I can't disagree with you on the general gist. As far as PF material goes, this is absolutely undeniable.

We've got to give Gilmour and Waters some credit for the work they've produced solo, though. After Waters got his mental health issues worked out, he lost the angst and conflict that drove his artistry. The Pros And Cons Of Hitchhiking was a valiant, if fundamentally flawed, effort.

The attempts of Gilmour, Mason and Wright to keep PF alive fell short of the PF of old, and certainly their attempts at covering the earlier work was often flacid and hollow. (To give credit where due, Wright's work in later offerings was exceptional, as always.)

We shouldn't let the success of PF's sound bias us for or against the individual members' work. We should try to let it stand on its own. Or, in the case of Pros And Cons Of Hitchiking, let it lay festering on its own...

Let the night surround you
We're halfway to the stars
Ebb and Flow, let it go
Feel the warmth beside you

I've tried to listen to this song but it just seems so boring and slow.

The guitar solo is a bit on the safe side but still great. I would have played it bit dirtier and emotional but that's just me.

Nice way to connect Gilmour with Fripp/Belew. All three guitar godlings.

People - this isn't Floyd so don't judge it in that manner.

This is Gilmour doing what he does best.

The album does grow on you though - just driven 480km from Geraldton to Perth (Western Australia)listening on the cd (no RP in the WA paradise)and despite the laid-back tone didn't drop off to sleep once !!!
