Yes! This is, in fact, an awesome CD. The production is magnificent, never mind the artistry.

Pondering how much the silky guitar enhances the silky voice.

I haven't listened to the CD for ages and has forgotten how much I like it. I'll have to pull it out and listen to it again.

I caught the same show in Concord, CA...kd was indeed warm, funny, and melted the audience...Lyle was incredible, too. It was a very fine night of music, just wish that kd was the headliner

Smooth like butter. Hey Bill--add Hymns from the 49th Parallel to the playlist (she covers songs by Canadian songwriters). The artistry of Neil, Joni, and Leonard but the voice of k.d.--wow.

That CD has been in HEAVY rotation for me for a long time. There is only one song in rotation here, maybe nobody else has uploaded anything? Maybe I will...

Hmmm,

I've been following lang's career since she began and I've always been under the impression that she's been the receipient of widespread critical acclaim (as well as a fair amount of popular appeal).

As for collaboration, I think she's a big enough talent to have little need for it. She has nonetheless done a lot of it.

She was one of the backup singers in the Roy Orbison tribute "A Black & White Night".

She collaborated with the famous Nashville producer Owen Bradley to produce one of her best albums, "Shadowland". She was joined for the final song by Loretta Lynn, Brenda Lee, and Kitty Wells on "Honky Tonk Angels' Medley".

With Tony Bennett, duets on the Grammy winning "A Wonderful World" album.

with Jane Siberry ("Calling All Angels")

with Roy Orbison ("Cryin")

again with Tony Bennett (1994, "Moonglow" from MTV Unplugged)

with Madeleine Peyroux (Joni Mitchell's "River" 2006)

with Elton John ("Teardrops")

I've loved K.D. Lang's work from the very beginning too. I even saw 'Salmonberries', a movie she starred in. Great soundtrack too. Her voice has always been stunning. She said once early in her career that she felt like she was channeling Patsy Cline, and after hearing her sing a P.C. song I can't say she was wrong.
As for collaboration, I don't think 'needing' has anything to do with it. See the Roy Orbison tribute: everybody and his dog is on that stage, from Elvis Costello to Bruce Springsteen to the man of the hour hizownself. The Traveling Wilburys clearly did not 'need' to collaborate, they did it for fun and respect for their fellow musicians. Just to be on the same stage with Roy Orbison (among other legends) was surely reason enough.

More K.D. and Patsy, please!

I've always been a fan of KD, but it' not the kind of music I would generally give an 8. Except this time--most excellent IMO.
