Oh, geez - I used to skip the "Black Mountain Side" song - and then I grew up and listened to the whole damned album from beginning to end. Repeatedly. I'm working to get the entire Zep collection on CD. Funny how history can come back and FWAP a person into a new appreciation of classic music.

It took approx. 30 hours studio time to complete this album AFAIK. Still though, that's pretty quick as the average goes. |

I believe it was Tchaikovsky- not entirely sure- who said all music was borrowed. It is the very good musicians who make us hear it in a new light. Check out Steve Tibbetts' version - equally borrowed yet new and beautiful. |

"....you realize that he didn't write this song, don't you? it was a traditional irish song called "Down By The Black Waterside" that was then re-arranged by Jansch and Page as well as others. I have no idea why Jansch got mad at Page for this, considering he learned it from Anne Briggs and didn't credit her for it either, none of them have ownership on the song." From You Tube Can anyone verify the above statement? |

Refreshing to hear this tune instead of their usuals. Love the arrangement of this. Not a huge Zep fan, but can appreciate something really good when I hear it.

Though I prefer Zepp's stuff over the Rolling Stones, at least the Stones actively promoted the careers and writing credits of their blues masters, like Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Willie Dixon and Fred McDowell. In fact they did alot to educate the white world about the blues, while Zepp just seemed to exploit the blues and gave nothing back. |
