Whenever I hear this I think of the "Everyone Loves Raymond" episodes that were filmed in Italy. I have no idea why—probably bears no resemblance to the music used (which I did look up but don't remember anyway). But I somehow juxtapose this music with some of the great scenery they shot while filming.

I first listened to this song on RP and been in love with it since then. They have several other cool songs.

The entire Album is put together from samples with a few instruments and vocals overlaid. It takes thousands of hours to assemble the sampled songs. I believe I read they were going for a sound evocative of cruising on a private yacht to the carribean in the '30s. I find it incredible that such a technical process can create such a lush sound. bumping my own - because I think the info makes it so much cooler |

Similar instrumentation, vastly different style. The great local NOLA music is usually found Uptown, or in Riverbend, the Marigny or even MidCity. Sometimes you'll bump into a Vieux Carre band that's not hatin' life because some drunk has requested "Saints" for the tenth time in two hours, but the odds are against you.
Gotta love cabaret music and gypsy jazz, in all of its many permutations. Klezmer flavored ear candy is always appealing. This is especially nice! |
