Well, this Californian is with you - I just don't hear what the applause is all about with these performers (can't quite bring myslef to call them musicians) I haven't heard anything from them that rates higher than a 3.
Hey, I reckon the name alone is worth a 4 ;-)
This lot are growing on me, though this is perhaps one of their weaker efforts, at least going by the other fine numbers of theirs that RP has played. Still worth a 6, though. |

I like the way "BearMan" puts it, my thoughts exactly: ...
Reviewer: KA "BearMan" (NYC Metro)
What a treat it is to find a band like this. I'm the type of guy who will search for good bands on the internet, through reading reviews and such and I do believe I have found a great band here.
The first song, Human Thing, will not leave my head. What a great song! Simple, direct and beautiful. The Be Good Tanyas also do a blazing and sultry version of Prince's "When Doves Cry". It's an amazing interpretation that changes the entire feel of the song but delivers it with the same urgency that Prince did. Prince no longer is the principal owner and I think he would be fine with that given what a great job The Be Good Tanyas have done. The album works from beginning to end and that's something to love.

Update: Now that I have lived with this album for a long time, I can reaffirm my big love for this album. Simply one of the best albums I have heard in a long long time. Put it this way, I am waiting for when these gals will hit a town near me....cause I will travel without hesitation to see this band.....they are that good. I love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love love it when I run into a band like this. This band is the real and true deal.

One thing about the Tanyas, Jolie Holland, Audreys, Po'Girl, they're not about impressin' the masses with the usual mass appeal hyp, they're about allowin' the music to rize up from the very ground they stand on and come up and out through their instruments and vocal chords by the natural order of spontanaity and improvisation, understand, take it or leave it 'take it easy, but take it', as Gutherie once said |

There is no need for that kind of thing.Listen to her sing the words at the end of some of the verses, she has more vocal range in one word than Natalie has in her whole career.
I don't think I've ever heard these guys before and I find Natalie harmless but if you are comparing someone to her you are basically saying that they can't sing. |
