Yep. You get it. That's exactly the sound he's going for...the homeless alcoholic...with a bag full of the greatest stories ever told. That's Tom all over. He'd love your description. |

Fist stumbled across this song in ... yes .... Shrek.
Tom Waits, just keep doing what you do.
Love it! Happy New Year everybody...

Maybe playing "Gargles with Drain-o" is Bill's way of telling us to take a bathroom break.

It took a short bit, but once I came around on Waits, I haven't looked back - fantastic, original, just expertly done music in my opinion!

Orphans, Brawlers, Bawlers and Bastards
I know a bar exactly like that and it is high time for me to stop knowing it. As a matter of fact, Waits may have been there once, many years ago. I can't remember if it were there or another place nearby.

The man can sing (see: The Heart of Saturday NIght, last notes). Why has he sunk into this fascinations with willful ugliness?

I can almost see him stepping to some smokey mike in a dingy Parisian cafe and slurring this one out.
The man has always had the most evocative voice.

During this holiday season, this song reminds us that not all orphans are as cute and cuddly as that little rapscallion Oliver Twist... and that some orphans, such as this song, for example, deserved to be abandoned. |
