Simply Put...Mind Blowing. This guy can make noise with a uke like no other. Truly the Jimi Hendrix of ukelele. I saw him play with Bela Fleck and Flecktones in Telluride. They also had a theramin player that year. It absolutely rocked my world.

F*ckin jaw-dropping. The video is just sensational. I've played music for 35 years and rarely see anyone on any instrument who can achieve that level of excellence. Brings many memories back of my old guitar teacher.
Jake Shimabakuro really validates the ukelele as a stringed instrument. Just fabulous. This is why I love RP. I would never know this guy except for Bill G.

It's a 10 from me but I do like the video version better
that additional instrumentation at the end does nothing for the song

I agree. I think the instruments at the end ruin it. The drums and other stuff make it sound like some crappy smooth jazz version. The video is awesome

Huh? It's posted in the second message on this thread... |

This is the first time that I've heard this on RP. I was forwarded a link to the Central Park clip below. Although a nice version here, his video clip version in CP is better, and showcases this guy's talent. If you like the RP version, do yourself a favor and check out the clip. The sounds that he gets out of a uke are astounding.
A 9 due in part to his video version.

There's this whole ukulele revivalist movement in Australia right now, with mass gatherings of ukelele players springing up all over the country. And its probably all because of this dude.

Wow! What a surprise. I never heard a cover of this before. Didnt think anyone would have the guts...its such a great, classic song. But Jake handles it very well putting his own touches on it. I like it! |
