I had the privilege last week of watching Jerry Donahue in a small folk club in Llandeilo, West Wales, with his long-term associate Doug Morter. 

I suspect that in his early days (around the time of this track) he was heavily influenced by Richard Thompson, but he has gone on to become a fine guitarist in his own right, with an amazing technique. I can recommend going to his MySpace site (http://www.myspace.com/jerrydonahue) and giving "First Encounter" a listen.
