The name is great! Right wing televangelist said that rock music was the new pornography. So they called themselves the "New Pornographers." Perfect! (Could use more Neko though.) |

I disagree. By the power of his magic chest hair The New Pornographers can channel the artistic mind of Mercury. It is clearly obvious by the cover art. |

On Wikipedia it states that the name came from a Japanese film called "The Pornographers".
And why would it be suicide?
Perhaps only the most militant, close-minded, anti-pornography, moralistic person would refuse to even listen to music from a band with "pornographers" in the name, but come on now.....
luckily that's only but a wee portion of the population, so "professional suicide" seems a bit strong.

Shoot me, but I liked that song. The vocals had nice harmonies and were fresh and unique. I really enjoyed it. Had a little Sufjan Stevens to it (who I also like!).

Saw them Monday night at a cozy venue in Denver. Neko was present, what an incredible voice - Kathryn Calder is no slouch either. What a great show.
BTW, the group's name was derived from the Most Reverend Jimmy Swaggert's mid 90's proclamation that "rock music is the new pornography." This quote was uttered of course after being busted not once but twice for trysts with hookers. And the flock still tithes...

Is that Freddy Mercury on the album cover? Maybe it's a young John Astin. They're creepy and they're kooky....
