I'm in Toronto.  We were down primarily to see the Buddy Rich memorial concert, which was tremendous, and caught Umphreys another night.

I'll contact you the next time we come to NYC and see if we can get out to see you.

I know a lot of people view Radiohead as you do.  I just ain't one of em, and while I'm in the minority, I'm not alone.

I'm a rock musician.  When I play live, people want to rock —- for instance, the best audience responses my band gets is when we dust off something like Flirting With Disaster or Whole Lotta Love.

In October I saw Umphreys take the roof off the Blender Theater in every way but literally.  Right around the same time Bill was playing Radiohead nonstop, I was reading a whole bunch of RP posts applying all kinds of superlatives to Radiohead, including their musicianship, and I finally just blew a fuse and put up the post you responded to.  And, by the way, there is really no contest as to who's a better musician comparing, say, Phil Selway to Kris Myers.

As for Radiohead being "influential", I seriously hope that that can be minimized over time.  For me, music is about energy, groove and melody, things I personally don't hear that much of when I'm subjected to Radiohead —- I hear something like music for somnambulists.  Especially In Rainbows.

AC/DC has sold 200 million records for a reason, you know.

Finally, apology accepted.  That was very cool of you.

radiohead have the ability to rock (the bends), write an epic, transcendent album that will stand the test of time (ok computer), experiment in soundscapes (kid a), achieve the beautifully sublime (in rainbows) and put on one hell of a live show.  like 'em or not, they can do it all.  and the world loves 'em for it.

and by the way, i apolgize for calling you a fool below.  was having a crappy morning at work.

TOO MUCH F**CKING RADIOHEAD

I hear all this BS about what good musicians Radiohead are. I'm in NYC tonight and saw a band called Umphrey's McGee. Radiohead aren't good enough musicians to carry their guitar straps.

Ironically, on a station that says it's eclectic, but has basically gone to an "All Radiohead, All The Time" format, the message is this: there's an infinite amount of good music out there. Stop listening to Creep, get out of yer mother's goddamn basement, and go hear some.

If you don't like a song, feel free to write whatever intellegent or entertaining piece you want. If I'm looking for entertainment or something more intelligent to read or write, I certainly wouldn't turn to a song comment page on an internet radio site. Get a clue!

First of all I want to affirm that (IMHO) Radiohead still sucks, and they get worse the more play they get.

Second, I want to tell Vandal, who seems to confuse media forms here on RP, that I never intended to debate because this is NOT a debate forum, and therefore I am not looking for a discussion. This is actually a song comment posting where people can write just what they want about songs. If you or anyone get offended and want to start a debate about it, then there is a forum that you can start to debate whether or not Radiohead sucks or if they actually just blow. With all your rhetoric and name-calling, It would seem to me that you are a bit unstable. Good luck to you, I hope you get better. Maybe try listening to something better - it could help.

According to Wikipedia, a debate is defined as, ". . . a formal method of interactive and position representational argument." You should notice that there was no interaction on the part of californiatwin. He's basically lobbing pot-shots out at the community - he doesn't want to discuss anything, and is definitely not looking for an opportunity to represent his position.

Well, to each his own, I guess.

My own view is that it's entirely appropriate to discuss/debate something like whether Radiohead sucks or blows (and, here, I agree with you —- they do both) on these pages.  I just don't think that calling another commenting listener a "fucking idiot" is ever appropriate, that's all.

Just to balance the karma from my negative comment: I saw Bon Iver 2 days prior, which was one of the 2 or 3 best shows I've ever taken in.  I'm guessing Bill has them on here, right?

Sounds like the audience wanted to rock and Thom and the boys wanted to play their poncey horseshit.  Way to go Ohio —- you're onto these poofters.

Favorite moment of that show: just as the backing vocals cut in to "Strange Fishes," a flock of geese cross from behind the stage flying towards Lake Michigan as the sunset illuminates huge cumulus clouds behind the stage. Those are the moments that are better than gold . . . {#Sunny}

If you EVER get a chance to see Radiohead in concert, take it. They were tight as an old sailor's knot (try that one on for size) and Thom was clearly having fun (look up the Fresh Air interview with him for his last solo album—he said that for the OK Computer tour he'd stand at the mic looking at the crowd muttering "I'm really not into this" to himself).

The light system consisted of several thousand computer-controled LEDs and video screens so that some of the 75,000 in attendance could see the band members. They covered an amazing range of their catalog, considering the time constraints of the venue (must end at 10:00). No "Subterranean Homesick Alien" and of course no "Creep," but most of the big ones from Hail to the Thief, OK Computer and Kid A, and a surprising number from Amnesiac and The Bends. And all of In Rainbows.

I haven't been able to listen to much else since.

Wow...I'm shocked by all the playa hatahs on RP. You'd think the abundance of dope infused HIPPIE music (e.g., 23 minute Jethro Tull cuts) would mellow folks out. Instead, it belies a sort of angry underbelly that seems fairly ominpresent. It's music, people! And BTW, this ditty is quite quite marvelous.
