Now we just need Barry Manilow's, Kenny G's and Yanni's version of this great song to complete the tapestry travesty!!

Sorry, but I have to disagree and say this is the best version of this song by anyone, male or female! |

Jarring segue from UT's New Madrid...should have just gone from Tom Waits.

There is nothing as good as listening to Leonard singing his own work with his addled and aged voice. There was and remains the kiss of insight in most of Cohen's music - all it takes is a voice like K.D's to add a parallel universe to the dynamics.

Oh Damn ... the song is over already?

Must be a seriously good song what with all the artists who are doing covers. Can't really do a bad cover of a great song.

Better this by far than the execrable McCover of the song by the recent X Factor 'winner' which went straight to the UK No. 1. It says an awful lot about UK taste that a pisspoor no-talent singer can become a star overnight care of a manufactured programme which is essentially an extended karaoke session. At least kd lang's version has some feeling, and she's a proper, professional singer. 6 from the Nottingham jury, minus 6 for the X Factor version.

Pretty good.. but I'm partial to Jeff Buckley's cover, or Mr. Cohen's original.

Very nice cover of a beautiful song. This is probably my second favorite version of Hallelujah, but it still just pales in comparison to Jeff Buckley's. Great segue to Coldplay's Violet Hill, though! -7

No. This isn't a step up, but one down. There are too many great songs in the world that don't get played, and this one is taking up a space that another worthier song could've had. Veto.

Meh. I have no thoughts on this, which in its own way, is a bad thing. I love this song. I like KD. Combined? Meh. It just doesn't grab me the way some other versions do.

The courage it takes to subject yourself to comparisons with the original artist is impressive and should be encouraged. Without it many of the works of the original artists would be lost in time.
Well said. I'm in total agreement. |

Great song no matter who does it, but Rufus' or Jeff's version are still my faves. |
