And what about Rufus Waiwright version? don't you like it?
I saw him in concert (for the third time) last weekend in Barcelona. He played that song again. Great!!

This should be called "How to ruin a great song"

This song does make me want to cry each time I hear it, it's that beautiful. But I am forever in love with Jeff Buckley's version. Melodrama? The song is frickin' MELANCHOLY! It deserves some feeling by the artist.

"Minor Fourth and a Major Fifth"
i wonder if that progression is in this song... Has anyone figured it out? or is it just a convenient rhyme? Somebody go call Leonard.

The covers have ruined this one for me. Sounds sanctimonious.

It finally lost a bit for me, but its' STILL one to keep handy on the iPod for long drives.

I was just thinking today I hadn't heard any of the versions of this song on RP in a while.....

This isn't my favourite version RP plays, but it is good and hey, she's a fellow Canadian singing a song by a fellow Canadian!

Ironic ... there are loads of different versions of this tune on the RP playlist, but arguably the best one, which is John Cale's "I'm Your Fan" version, isn't.

Sometime soon I gotta do some more uploading ...

Great Version of a stunning tune. Leonard Cohen rocks!
I must say however I disagree with the "anyone".IMO

Of course this comes from someone who watches American Karaoke Idol once in a while. The deadlocked kid chose this one for his 80s challenge, and He nailed it! I must admit, he can sing.

Okay, 40 lashes for even mention the dreaded AI.

Personally, I find this a more refreshing, less melodramatic version than the more frequently heard one (sorry, I think it's the Buckley but I don't know for sure).

Yep, it's Jeff Buckley, and I'm with you. Not so much melodrama here.

Gets a 6 only because Cohen's lyrics are beautiful. Her voice, while nice, does not add much to the song. I prefer the original Cohen.

Nothing can come close to the original, I'm afraid, although I do agree KD has a beautiful voice. But they're Leonard's words first and foremost.

I saw k.d. sing this song live in 2005. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house, it was an absolutely amazing performance. She's a true artist.

I am a big fan of both k.d. and Leonard Cohen; but this jsut doesnt work for me. Some things are just not meant to mixed together.
