Be on the lookout for new Cyndi Lauper release, "Memphis Blues".  Raw & gritty, I am told. REAL.  Many nice guests, Musselwhite, BB King, etc.  Supposed to come out this month, I believe.

I have heard her really sing without the little girl schtick and I am here to tell you, she really does have some strong pipes. I was very pleasantly surprised. Looking forward to hearing what she puts out.

I met Janis Joplin. Never noticed anything peculiar about her odor. Drank a lot. Otherwise nice. Either you met a different Janis, or you're just being nasty. My money's on the latter.

Is still blues, don't care who's singing it.

I mute it too. Seems like this one, Message of Love, and Middle of the Road are played A LOT on RP. How about Mystery Achievement or Back on the Chain Gang?

And how about Birds of Paradise or Lovers of Today? Too slow? Then what the hell, let's hear Clothes.

I bought the album on the strength of this song. I didn't care much for the rest of it. At any rate this song is in a different style than the rest.

concrete proof that even elite musical outlets such as RP can overplay a song..

regardless, the song itself sounds like like typical corporate-engineered rock.

what's really sad is that the song sounds like the pretenders trying to imitate the white stripes' coarse style by artificially "roughing up" the song.. the result seems contrived at best, particularly with the overdubbed-in "stop" and "again" which just sounds DUMB DUMB DUMB..

"again" i say DUMB DUMB DUMB...

a solid "5"

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  The Pretenders, and this song in particular, are why we need something lower than a 1 - Sucko-Barfo rating!!!

Whoo hoo! For once someone agrees with me. :-) Usually I just get slammed for having an opinion.

And yes, I have heard their albums, not just the radio hits. My ex loved the Pretenders and would play them quite often. I never cared for any of it, and the few songs that got overplayed on the radio didn't help. Sorry anyone who's a fan...just my two cents.

Chrissie, chicky baby, where's that swagger, where's your cruel vocal edge? This feels more like a sound check than anything else. Way weak effort from Ms. Hynde. Stumbles and never gets up.
