Hehe, good one lawman. Personally I wasn't all that overjoyed with the Crane Wife, I felt it was going over the top with the faux irish and oh so serius attitude. I am however completely floored by the Hazards album which just goes to show that taste is obviously malleable. Guess I will have to go back and listen to their earlier stuff once again... But I'm still adamant about my position on earlier stuff from MMJ and Sigur Ros! ;) |

This is what continues to amaze and please me about the Decemberists. Like the best Jethro Tull ("Thick as a Brick"), related themes woven together in surprising and wonderful ways.

If it helps you, it's actually 5 tracks. The entire album runs together. It's like an opera in a way. |

Nice tune... I like that it wanders around and has some breaks that then fall back into the song's theme. Like or not this band sure appears to be serious about song writing and composition. Nice parts written for each musician. Lots of space for each to add to the song's development. I like to heavy guitar bass driving underpinnings

Exactly. I didn't rate it the first couple times, but it's really growing on me. |

YAY-I love hearing this on RP. I listen to this album constantly, and just can't get tired of it. Great song for the mid-morning lull...

Whoa, this does sort of wander around a bit. But still, its certainly enjoyable on a first listen. More like one of those that you can enjoy once in a great while, but not in heavy rotation.
Oh yeah, one other thing. Annie Haslan she ain't.

I don't think glydev was trashing the song because of its length, but because the musical content couldn't justify the length. I hardly think that makes him a "jackoff". |

It is rather long-winded and self indulgent, but it's another group I would never have heard if not for RP, so for that I say thank you! It Is a cross between Renaissance and ELP, but not quite as good as either. But since neither of those groups are producing fresh music, this is what we are left with! The bass line is quite fun, I sorta see the bass player from KISS (gene simmons?) stomping around in T-Rex boots! Let's go with a hard 6.

What's going on here!
A concept "album" when short attention span theater reigns?
RP playing a song that stretches the boundaries of pop music?
Songs and bands like this are the reason I listen to RP — as opposed to my local college radio station which plays an edited (shortened) version of this same song.
