The offbeats do it for me.
Say what you like about the Decemberists, but for some reason this slow groove is gellin' with me today.

Tough to choose between the 6 and the 7. Then the woman began to sing, even though she has a passing to annie haslam, i think it gets a solid 6 |

This song beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick...but not by much.

This has received quite a bit of play on RP and I sense my interest in it waning already. The hazards of repetition... I guess.

Whatever "it" is - I think they're earning it right here. Anyway, the album has completely turned this former non-fan around... nah, haven't earned it though. |

Nice to know someone still plays music for people with an attention span of more than 30 seconds.

17 minutes is the length of "Prelude + The Queen's Approach" ( 2009), inspired in work of Anne Briggs's 1966, are two songs, two steps; i still believe it is a risk to make the songs so long; i had to listen that song a few times, because it takes a considerable amount of output sound to reveal all the details, the song is very well structured, well supported artistically, with creativity, good arrangements, good development, it has argument story, the registration and combination of voices is perfect, even i think the female voice (Becky Stark of Lavender Diamond and Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond provide guest vocals throughout the album) could be used more and more evident, we would say that is built and the style, not much seen in recent years, the call "rock opera", but makes no concessions to ease, the "ready-to-hear"; in one word can be considered an "excellent piece of music"; which only shows the breath that the Band The Decemberists was been evident in before records; My Morning Jacket's Jim James, Robyn Hitchcock and The Spinanes' Rebecca Gates appear in supporting roles of album; interesting album artwork by Portland artist Carson Ellis, Meloy's wife.

I didn't know they came out with a new album! I'm now really excited to hear the rest of it. So far I like the direction they've gone! Awesome.
Oh, and people who think its too long, realize Bill's playing the first 6 tracks of the album in much the same way you should play the last two tracks of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. I think its refreshing to hear an album that's a singular work instead of a random compilation of singles. Kudos.

I like this more every time I hear it. I really dig the combination of influences. I hear so many of the kinds of music I've enjoyed over the years in these tracks.
Apparently rock is not dead.

bbryan wrote:So how would one go about consolidating 6 separate tracks in iTunes so it played them as one piece as we are hearing it here?
Love it by the way!
I had to import all 6 tracks into an audio editor & stitch them back together. I used to use a CD ripper that would let you adjust the start & end points of a track (that's how I acquired the extended Dark Side Of the Moon medley that we play here, for instance) but the program that I'm using these days doesn't have that feature. On a related note, this is an instance where the per-track sales & distribution model really falls apart. Even if you buy the whole album via iTunes or Amazon, you're left with a grossly substandard listening experience, since the album can't flow together nicely like it's supposed to. Lame. |
