Musically, IMO, this is brilliant rock and roll. And the timekeeper is certainly one of the best anywhere.

I have not seen my cousin in many decades.  She is a year or two older than I and shares the same first name with my mother.  She is part of the aid for Palestine flotilla and was on the main ship when Israeli commandos boarded in international waters.  Many are dead and injured.

We await news.

Here's a hint about In Abstentia. When you get the CD, take the jacket out of the jewel case and put it somewhere safe. That way you can always enjoy what is perhaps their best album to date.

And don't fret about getting PT albums, I have all that is in print (and some that is not) and they all have their unique signatures.

PT is the most scyzophrenic band I know! I love some of their songs, hate some of them and am indifferent to the rest. This is one of the "meh" songs, pretty unremarkable.

I was scratching my head wondering where I had heard this song before, then I scrolled down the comments and saw that others had compared it to Floyd...and I was happy that I wasn't going crazy! Good song, but yeah, a little derivative. Like that progressive guitar solo though!

I'm always amazed at the blistering brilliance of this song.  Thanks, Bill and 'becca for introducing me to Porcupine Tree!

I too was at the Dallas show and out of the 300+ concerts I've been to in my life, this made the top 5. PT is one of the most amazing, under rated bands of our time. I'm floored over the number of people who know music well, but haven't heard of Porcupine Tree, yet my friends back in the Netherlands and the UK.. it's a household name. I heard of these guys here on RP about three years ago. Thanks again for being the ultimate station on the web!

Animals may well be Pink Floyd's best work but none of it ever moved me the way this song does.

saw this band last night in dallas - an amazing performance.  steven wilson said that they got to play 6 songs at coachella ("that's ok - everyone else did the same") and therefore they had only played 6 songs in 6 days.  said it was wonderful to be playing again - they played for 2 hours.  gavin harrison rocked.

This is so "Animals" that I was waiting for the sound effects.
But after a while
You can work on points for style
And when they turn their back on you
You get a chance to put the knife in.....

My 13yo son and I just saw PT live yesterday. Utterly wonderful show... I must thank Bill for the revelation back then in the In Absentia years.

Currently own everything except the first two and some of the live CDs.

You could start with In Absentia and then get everything up to and including The Incident.  Or work in reverse.

Then if you have any lingering fondness for the Beatle's psychedelic period, you will get both Stupid Dream and Lightbulb Sun.

Correct - it does not imply better.  But we need people making music today don't we?  Not just resting on the laurels from 1979's the Wall, or 1995's 'OK Computer' (a patchy and massively overrated tome imho) and 'the Bends'.

I started with Deadwing after hearing PT here on RP. Then In Absentia then ripped through everything I could find and bought this album when it came out. I was disappointed at first but after a couple of times through, it really started to grow on me. After seeing them in Boston I listed to this album over and over again until I was sick of it. Now I'm ready to wear it it out again.

Stupid Dream is the same. I can listen to it over and over again and then I get sick of it for a few months.

Nothing like some PT on a drab Monday morning to get going to.

Kaybee I would get this album, or Deadwing to start.  Stupid Dream, In Absentia and then just start digging into the pile of incredible music.  And if at all possible get tickets to see them on May8th at The Sound Academy in Toronto.

What the HELL with the short commercial B.S. radio version!!!!

For all the  inevitable Radiohead and Pink Floyd comparisons, it should be remembered that Steven Wilson is far more productive as an artists than both those acts put together.  He releases 3/4 new projects each year, which is astounding since it is all highly-crafted and well-produced stuff, not exactly knocked out at the weekends.
