ALBUM OF THE DECADE - remember when an album was a collection of songs and not just singles

Geez, there are a bunch of commentors on here that sound like a bunch of old fogies! It's not always about the voice. Sometimes what is attractive about a song is the content, atmosphere and/or story.

Thanks! I knew she sang with SS, but I did not know she was with the Decemberists.

I really loved The Crane Wife; this one hasn't really turned me on at all.

Absolutely.  Not familiar with this band, I thought the song was over and loved the next one!  Then the whiny guy came back on. {#Mad}

I would have called myself a Decemberists fan once upon a time (was floored by their live show in 2004, shortly after the release of their still-excellent The Tain EP, an 18-minute song cycle based on a Celtic epic — with Sabbath-y touches!), but after another five years of hyperliterate rock-opera bombast and Colin Meloy whinging about scrimshaw, organza and, I dunno, vestibules, I'm kind of done.
I don't begrudge them their reasonably successful move to a major, it's just that this stuff has a shelf life...

Absolutely. I ended up catching 3 shows this tour.
They should release their live cover of Crazy on You.

Was just about to comment about the Grace Slick flavor to her vocals but someone beat me to it! Have to say that I like this singer much more.

Saw the Decemberists last winter, and I was verrrry impressed with the sound those five people could generate on pieces like this. And Colin Melloy was a wonderful showman—great concert!
