Bill has a sense of humor; Screaming Trees came before Florence.

But I'm one (of many) who likes the scream machine.

There are some tunes of theirs which are more listenable and have nice melodies and all (like this one), and I like the percussive sound, but the repeated, production "formula" that you refer to seems to weigh the songs down.  It's like coating everything with sonic marzipan instead of just having little accents of it.  The howling gets tiresome pretty fast, too, but it can be strangely amusing sometimes. Overall, her enthusiasm is admirable, and there are certainly much worse musical acts these days, and have been in the past.

Florence probably listened to too much Fritz Wunderlich singing Granada:

If operatic tenors aren't your thing, listen to 3:50 onwards, you'll get the idea.

The irony is that he was normally beautifully controlled, but he sure let it all hang out there. Too bad he fell down some stairs and died at only 36 years old - Pavarotti would have had a much higher hill to climb had Fritz lived a normal life span.

This song just came on and my wife says:  "What's this band again?  Something like 'Pancake and the Sewing Machine'?"  Obviously I told her that was exactly correct.

I like it but it is part of those I feel is played a bit too often for my liking. One that makes me tuning in to another radio.

There is absolutely no contrast between one track or either album it just amounts melodramatic, bombastic overload of shouting.

Nope, it's too much for me.
Too much volume.
Too much drama.
Too much harp.
