There are but a few songs by the Beatles that I would rate lower than a 9 or 10. This is NOT one of them. A definite 10!

Given life and times, tsunamis and everything in-between, what an apros pos song.

An 11, if I could.

Thanks for the thoughtful comments, riffster. I love this tune. . . .

Like Dylan, the somewhat meager vocal dexterity can be excused in light of the sublime phrasing and understanding of the lyrics and tune that Paul shows. What a calm and yet immensely powerful little song!

As to McCartney's music having devolved over time - I respectfully disagree (somewhat.) He just reflected his giant talents through a bit different prism.

To me, judging the tunes in Band on the Run or Ram to Revolver or Abbey Road on the same scale kind of defeats the purpose of eclectic listening. You'll note the same craftsmanship and musicianship in his later work as you do in Beatle times, but you don't have John's influence (and to a lesser extent, that of George.) The same can be said of the work by those two post-Beatle - and both of them also wrote very, very good music outside of the Fab Four.

Ringo is another story - but hey, he married Barbara Bach, the lucky SOB.

From the best CD of Beatles (together with Abbey Road), with the best song ever, Blackbird.

The whiny voice is painful to listen to. Also I can't stand that many doo, doo, doos. The instrumentation is wonderful, though, and the tune is nice.

The misspelling is on the word "Disc" on the back... I believe it is "Dics One"...

I think I might have that at home...

Haven't heard this song for some time. Good, but not as good as I used to think it was.

Are you referring to Bluebird?

I was thinking the same thing when I put the White Album on my stereo this weekend. Things went downhill for Paul, but this song still stirs my soul.

Anyone notice that the chord walkdown in the middle of the song is very similar to the chord progression in the Phish tune Waste? A little Beatles inspiration in the Phish tune no doubt.

I confess a certain fondness for the John Denver version myself. In all his goofy goodness... Of course I was inundated with it while skiing in Aspen as a child. Wish I could afford to make it back out there.

The #3 song all-time? Might be...certainly the other end of the Earth from a 3 rating, if that's what you mean, but surely no one's that daft.

This is Paul at his best, when the sweetness of the melody isn't encumbered by too much going on in the arrangement. Love it. :D

A short, simple, happy song from Paul, with music that evokes the nature theme. This song contributes well to the mix of acoustic and electric songs on the White Album.
