But they had the best hooks of the big hair bands.

Hah! I just turned off Spotify to listen to RP after finishing listening to Violator. Thought something had gone wrong at first... Despite some zeitgeist sounds (the snare) the songs themselves as well as the lyrics are surprisingly timeless.

Perhaps this happened at the dawn of the digital age, but the Theremin is most definitely an analog instrument ;-) |

I get it that this is musical and the loops are creative etc. Just not my bag. Just like maybe a blister guitar solo and some fancy wahwah pedals might not be yours. |

Though this song I like it's not at the top of the list. This album is definitely a top tier. Great album. |

So anything with electrically generated sounds is not a real instrument? In that case, your "screaming guitar" isn't a real instrument as the electric guitar sounds like crap when played with the electrics turned off. With the advance of the digital age, more and more things are used to make music. Anything used to make music can be an instrument, I don't care if it is as simple as banging on a brake hub or as complex as a computer. That said, I understand the intent of your argument. There is a completely different skill set used when playing a guitar then sitting in front of a computer screen or production board. |
