Back in 1994 I was a DJ at a local public radio station. Big Band music every Saturday morning. One day the guy who played contemporary music on his show called in sick, and I volunteered to cover him. Played this song, and then announced on air that it was by a group called "Porti Shed," like a portable shed. Oops.

I really like their live stuff. sirdroseph wrote:

Yes they need to change up their Portishead selections and add more. Like the rest of this album.

Pity this ended up being about the only song they ever made, with all the rest sounding, well, pretty much exactly the same.
Awesome song though.

Seems it's their only song!

I bet all our old girls here love this!

Who would not want to be a woman, when already an old girl?

Undoubtedly one of the finest live recordings I have.  She is scarily good at giving me the worst goosebumps.  My missus hates them, though, so it's headphones or the car....

They have some absolute crackers but its not all gold.  probably better to be a bit more selective.  The album this is a very good place to start.  You could also do worse than to look into Massive attack's Mezzanine at the same time.  Something in my mind always links these bands.

I concur, she has a sexy and sultry delivery, a bit like Mazzy's  "Fade into you"

This makes me think of the dozens of ways I've been trying to life my ratings in order to build RP-based playlists.  My musical life would definitely be less colorful had I not discovered this site!

Interesting. I find myself singing along and the line "I just want to be a woman" is not something I think I have ever issued before. I am liberated!

Cool — I'll have to check that out!  I have the "Glory Times" disc (remixes of Sour Times & Glory Box) and love the "Scorn" version (track 3).
