I'm so glad that RP is not too up-itself to play U2 - this is a fantastic song!

I think all the negative votes are more about what U2 has BECOME then what they WERE when this perfection was released....

This has always been my favorite U2 song. Pure heart, soul and emotion.
And to the haters out there, when you are emotional, in rock and roll, you often wail.
Love it. I'M WIDE AWAKE. I'm not sleeping.

Wailing, wailing and more wailing Bono. Long live the wailing Bono...oh geeeez.

Although the live version of this song is one of the best recordings ever made, the studio version is still a 10.

I've heard and read that U2 do not have the strongest rhythm section.... the bass and drums on this are so perfect i cannot imagine how they could get better Huh - Adam Clayton (bass) and Larry Mullen Jr. (drums) are arguably the best technical musicians on their respective instruments in the group. Sure the Edge gets all the love for his loops and stuff, but that's more innovative than flat out skilled - not quite the same is it? Adam and Larry would be able to play jazz, the Edge I'm not so sure of. |

A big screw you to all the haters out there - this band is among the best and most important in rock and roll history. epic themes, brilliant lyrics and orchestration... four ghetto Irish kids trying to be the The Ramones... what were the odds... |

fredriley wrote: Which is just a wordier and more intellectual variation on the age-old "If you don't like X you must be thick/philistine/have no musical appreciation". It doesn't work that way - musical appreciation is not a rational thing, it's emotional. If you don't like U2 or the Beatles or The Who or Amon bloody Duul it doesn't make you a dimwit. You just don't like it, that's all. No mystery.
Anyone who comes here is a "RP type". It's not some secret society of intellectual illuminati, it's a public radio station for all to listen to, and the more that listen the better (not least for Bill & Becky's bank balance). You are telling people what to think and you're pigeonholing them based on your personal preferences. Knock it off.
Bravo Fred Although I have run across the occasional Beatle hater and can't quite fathom them — guess its my own limitation. |
