Ah. Memories of college come flooding back. Couldn't walk out of the dorm without hearing this album being played in someone's room somewhere.

Seriously, when a band like this listens to playback, do they think they've created something new and interesting?
Or just rehashed some leftovers?
Badly. I agree with all this, but seemingly this is a minority opinion. This band has always grated for me and time has not softened any of it. |

Cynaera wrote:I'm not paying any attention to the comparisons and arty-farty criticisms of this band. I don't care about Adam Duritz's personal anguishes. All I know is that when I hear pretty much any Counting Crows song, I start to smile, drive a little faster, maybe even sing.
I can't fault a band that elicits that reaction for me, since I'm one step away from total despair most of the time. Oh - and I've discovered that I still have my voice, so singing isn't an excruciatingly-horrific experience anymore - at least, to my ears.
And I just love this song.
Miss you so much, Cynaera...love this song... |

Why do I have such a soft spot for this whiny, melodramatic band?

I love quite a lot of music from bands that were/are commercially successful. And I don't bash everything from Dave Matthews, even though one seems to have to here on RP. Having said that, I really dislike almost everything this band ever produced. The singer is an intolerable whiner. |

That is one of the worst cover versions of any song that I have ever heard. This album wasn't bad - they even have a crow reference in this song title. |

one of my personal favs by these guys,
Like the music or not you have to wonder if anyone was able to pull down the ladies like Adam could...whipped threw the Friends cast in their prime. Monica Potter, and now Emmy Rossum.

Does Adam have a self important, hipster, tacky quality about him and probably thinks he is far deeper and important than he actually is? Sure, but the Crows have produced some very toe tappin' tunes and they are fine with me.

Ever walk by a Yankee Candle store unexpectedly? Some people love it, but the blast of artificial stink trying to mimic natural scents causes an immediate toxic reaction and headache for me.
