Hey Artie - if you don't quite understand listen more closely. And over the course of 20 years of music making, Thom has expressed the whole range of emotions, not just anguish. And from your info, you are a fellow Brooklyner who is my senior by a mere two years, but what speaks volumes is that the youngest artist you have given a 10 to is Dire Straits. |

johnjconn wrote:Possibly the greatest song ever made I agree — wholeheartedly - and I have great taste in music. . . . . In that world where there are about 23 different songs - depending on time and place - that are the greatest songs ever made.. Part of it is knowing how ridiculously good OK Computer is as a whole — which is certainly, without a doubt, one of the best LP's ever made. Matter of fact, I think I'll go Spotify it! |

the rest...? Forget it! Pseudo-intellectual bull! I'm going to use Stingy's usual randomly thoughtless rant as a starting point. When this came out, I savaged it, especially the lyrics and Yorke's grating whine of a voice. It's taken me some time, but despite the borderline trite title (Really? Karma Police? A small toss from the equally awful "Dream Police"), this is an amazing song. The composition is a soaring paean to The Beatles and its execution something of which George Martin would approve. Yorke's voice hasn't gotten any better, and I've learned not to pay too very much attention to the lyrics, but with one song after another, this band rips out one classic after another. Amazed that they've hung in together so long. |

This band amazes me. I usually feel like I know what makes them so good—instrumentation, counterpoint, texture—they're some of the best at all that. But this song is comparatively uninteresting that way, and yet though I've heard it 100 times it's always great. A strange and powerful melody. Who comes up with the basic melodies for Radiohead? Whoever is pretty much a genius.
