Err, would that be a visual sandwich (or a woman in the coven having a yodel? = songwitch) caused by watching Tarantino movies? |

Sure. It's good the influences are transparent. Paying your respects to someone who led the way in the genre is fine by me. |

No correlation, but a sweet memory of reading the children's book by the same name a couple thousand times to my little boy (when he was little!)...

I really like this half chilling and bouncy nature of this tune. Cool balance if you ask me. If you don't?...it's still cool dammit.

A hint of Dolly Parton's voice in there...

Apparently it's quite an old practise, and not always associated with weddings. There was a story in my family about an ancestor being killed in a shivaree. One of our relatives doing research actually tracked down the actual event and found the newspaper articles about it in the Montreal Gazette (and it differed greatly from the version that had been told to me). Apparently a crowd had gathered a couple of nights running (they even put up posters to spread the word) to try to extort money from a wealthy member of the community. In one of these a shot was fired and my ancestor, a servant in the man's household, was killed. He left a wife and children, and his death led to the banning of shivarees in Montreal. Businessgypsy wrote:I don't know if the custom is still being practiced in the US, but it was in my parent's day in remote parts of the Arkansas Ozark mountains. Could get way out of hand, to the point of fights and bloodshed. Sigh. Yes, I'm a hillbilly by birth. Raised with Cajuns, but hillbilly stock.
Glad we just have bachelor parties before the ceremony now.

Her voice sounds quite a bit like Marcella Detroit / Shakespear's Sister. Pretty good song, nice sound... 8.

Fun to hear this song, which evidently has had regular RP rotation, so long after its release. Very nice song.

I like it, but it's either on heavy rotation right now, or I just happened to have caught it several times in the last few days. I've heard it enough for now. Thanks Bill!

Well, it's now October of 2011, and this song still gives me chills. It'd be a great background song for a Halloween party, because it's so creepy. I love it, though - listening to it is like watching a horror movie from behind one's hands, but spreading the fingers just a little to see the skeery parts...
