Dave to self: OK, I've run out of ideas, time to trot out the backup singers...

Dave rules. Excellent musicians, making excellent music. Glad you played a live track, it is nice to hear something that the mainstreams aren't playing to death.

This is a great song, but what's with playing the really bad live version? This version gets a 1, but the album version would get a much higher score.

I think animosity toward DMB is often because they have been overplayed so much for so long on mainstream radio... and at every BBQ you go to. I saw them live 3 times at small venues before anyone knew who they were. One of those times they opened for Big Head Todd! It's good to have memories of being in the front row and watching great, tight musicians at work.

Especially with the background singers, this is a lively song with energy to spare. No problems here.

DM has a distinctive and unique voice; if you don't like him....well, there is a wide range of other musicians and stations to listen to. Keep in mind, a lot of folks have talked down Neal Young, Van Morrision, and Bob Dylan as well for their vocal idiosyncrasies over the years. Like them, I think Matthews will outlast his critics as well.

You are spot on. This is far from my fav from them and I'm not a fan.... but they are good. I'm certainly not going to lay into them. People love to hate things that are popular.

I sincerely wish I could agree whole-heartedly. (I would agree half-heartedly, but I'm not really sure what that would mean.)

In this song, at any rate, I do like the little melodic allusion to Phil Collins's "I Wish it would Rain." Okay, maybe it's half-parody and half-allusion. Nice touch either way.

you are SO right. less dave, more gospel . . . the better the song is. i also second the motion to include less dave on the RP playlist . . . how about none at all?

Teko commented he didn't like the background gospel singers, while they're just what makes this song quite enjoyable for me.

I've grown so incredibly tired of DMB. I'd sure like to see RP ease up on DMB at least for a while.
