This blows! Tom Petty hasn't written any worthwhile music since 1982. All his tunes sound like the Traveling Wilburys with his whiny voice.

One of my favorite Tom Petty songs - no BS, no tricks, just a straight-ahead good tune with sweet licks and good lyrics.

This album is solid if occasionally uneven.
It contains some true pop-rock gems of which this and Learning to Fly are absolutely primo examples.

That Mike Campbell slide guitar at the end is just perfect, man.
What's not to like in this song?

There's a very good live version of this on the Playback box set. It's a totally different tempo and feel, changes the tone of the song completely.

i was a fan of T.P. for a brief period of time in high school, but i very quickly tired of hearing him record the exact same song over and over and over again.

kinda boring.

"The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame says you had to have recorded your first piece of music at least 25 years ago. "

Maybe Moby and Radiohead will make it if they last that long. (I hope they do actually, but really, think of all the people you've most likely forgotten about during the last 'n' years - no lasting power etc)

Anyway love Tom Petty (and yes, he actually was more than slightly derivative at first -- but he was in a 'good' way)

I have to say, Petty is always consistent. His newer stuff is really good, not carbon copied, but you can still tell where he came from.
