unclehud wrote:I second the motion for Theivery Corporation. They rock ... well, in a quiet funky way. True enough, but they're also explicitly political whereas Morcheeba's lyrics have rarely been contentious. I prefer Thievery Corporation for their eclecticism and agitprop, though Skye's voice is always smooth and pleasant to listen to. |

I absolutely love Morcheeba! Some others you might dig are Massive Attack, Portishead, Bajka, Thievery Corporation. Some others that meet the "slick lounge-kool" but don't have the female vocals are Greyboy—Mastered the Art, The Jones Orchestra, Herbaliser (more on the Hip Hop side), Lobe, Pete Rock—Petestrumentals, Dzihan & Kamien, Omid, Groove Armada, Action Figure Party, Medeski, Martin & Wood. These last ones I file under Hipstrumentazz. No doubt some other listeners might disagree with such tangentialnesses, but I'm a lumper not a splitter and I dig what I dig! slartibart_O wrote:Quite cool. I could stand to build an entire collection of nothing but slick lounge-kool bands like this with sultry power babe lead vocals; i.e. Shivaree, Venus Hum, Audreys, Zero 7, etc. Any other fitting suggestions? |

A little spy-jazz, a little mid-century lounge swank; I love it.

Always like Morcheeba. This song has shades of Edwyn Collins, "A girl like you" – and that IS a good thing...
