One does not have to be "jaded" or "cynical" to dislike this song - it's awful.

This stands on its own merit. . .the passion in this piece, the lyricism. . .it's sad when a jaded listener's only reference point is whether it sounds better or worse than some other artist--some numerical scale in the critic's head; what about feeling--which is what music is attempting to elicit.

This song kind of creeped me out. For some reason his "true companion" sounds unwilling to me... which makes the guy sounds like a stalker. Or maybe just a bit clingy...?

Bunch of friggin' cynics. Schmaltz or not, this is a gorgeous song. We romantics are going to revel in it no matter what you say.
