Waylon Jennings must have covered about twenty of his songs. |

Johnny Cash once said that Billy Joe Shaver was the best songwriter he ever met. Pretty high praise from a guy who rubbed elbows with Harlan Howard and Cowboy Jack Clement, huh? I want the solo acoustic version of Billy singing this song played at my funeral. God bless Billy Joe, and let him have a few peaceful years before he has to cross Jordan. |

This is quite interesting... not my favorite genre, but the lyrics are profound, and the guitar-picking be very good...
EDIT: sorry to hear about what happened to the dude...

Billy Joe Shaver is the man. Lived through more heartbreak than one man should suffer. The kid on the cover behind him? That's his son Eddie. Eddie od'ed a few years back, not long after the album came out. Billy Joe nearly quit playing because of it, but he did a gig awhile later, and realized he HAD to go on.
Billy Joe Shaver is one of the grand old masters of Texas songwriting, up there with Townes, Blaze, Joe, Butch, Lyle, Patty, Nanci...

With all the notes & options available to singers, why, oh why do so many try to hit those they know they can't??? (He probably wrote it, too.)
This wasn't too bad until he hit the end of his range and kept going.
Then it really became "too bad". |

Not ALL Radiohead fans. Some of us actually have open-minded, ecclectic tastes. |
