They file Eliza under "folk," where she was just nominated for a Grammy...but she's as tough as any rocker. Who else would write an ode to Hiway 9? (The road to Baghdad -- and it's a darn good song, too.) |

I'm not big on folk/country-ish music, but I really like her voice :)

thought i needed to adjust my speakers when the playlist said this wasn't another humdrum halfhearted attempt to remake the johnny cash classic "Ring of Fire".

How could there be anything "generic" about pagan passion to a country tune ? Can't see it on the bill at the Opry next time Dubya stops in. |

Saw here live a few months ago. Her father was a songwriter for Disney. She closed her set with one of her father's songs - "Bare Necessities" from Jungle Book.

Probably because Gilkyson writes for/with Rosanne Cash. |

For Eliza fans, NPR's All Things Considered did a long interview/review of Eliza last Thursday 5/30/02, and they archive everything. Anyone interested go to www.npr.org, choose All Things Considered from the choose a show dropbox, go to archives, pick the date, find the article in the show's listings, click on the headline, and you can listen to it with real audio (and maybe others - I use real audio). It's worth hearing if you're a Gilkyson fan......

Please, please, please play more Eliza. She is brilliant, and doesn't get the air time she deserves. Anything from Hard Times in Babylon would be great, especially, "Engineer Bill."
You must know it--be my holy man--play more Eliza.
