Hate him worse? Is that the right direction or maybe the left? Or maybe you're just beginning to see the light in the dark?

Not his best but still good. A bit too much of the "gravel" in this one. I really like this lyric: "there ain't no devil, there's just God when he's drunk." He's had some great lines in his songs. He even used one from Dorothy Parker in an early one: "I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy."

TheLib wrote:For those who don't like Tom's voice on this song (after the cigarettes and booze had turned it to gravel), check out his "Heart of Saturday Night" album. He recorded that back when he could still sing, and it's got a bunch of great songs. Still one of my favorites 30+ years after I first heard it.
I encourage Bill to add all of the songs from "Heart of Saturday Night" to the playlist, and play them often.
Yes, it's reminiscent of Neil Diamond. I prefer the gravel. |

I encourage Bill to add all of the songs from "Heart of Saturday Night" to the playlist, and play them often. He can still sing just like on Saturday and Closing Time, he chooses not to. I like most of his work, including this one, but sometimes he swings and misses. Nobodys perfect. |
