On all music guide they break it down pretty well for you here, with a history of the genre, pioneering artists, etc. And at the bottom of the page they list out who they feel are the Top Artists, Top Albums & Top Songs (though some of their choices I would not agree fall into the Trip Hop genre). My recommendations are: Massive Attack, Portishead, Morcheeba and Thievery Corporation. The K & D Sessions (by dj's Kruder & Dorfmeister) is definitely a seminal work not to be missed. Waldeck is a great band/artist that really captures the sound well too. |

I've always heard Morcheeba described more as "Down-Tempo" or "Lounge/Exotica". I guess they're all just arbitrary labels anyhow. It's good music no matter what it's labeled as. |
