Finally a Dylan that can sing...but then he had to go and write these inane lyrics. Could have used his dad's lyrical sense and then this would have been a rather complete rock tune.

The opening chords command attention but the rest of the song is, as another poster said, "comfortable.". For a song in the same vein that lives up to it's opening, try "the last DJ" by tom petty.

The musical equivalent to very functional, comfortable furniture.

This song is a symbol to me of my Junior/Sophomore years of college (99-01). I'd moved from Kansas City to St. Joseph, MO, and all the great KC alternative stations that'd nutured me musically were changing formats even if they were a getting out of range up there. I was too poor by then to afford concerts like I'd used to do, and I'd not discover RP until later 2001. They were dark musical times where N'Sync and Brittney were taking over TRL every day and pushing out the last popular alt rock holdouts like Hole and the Goo Goo Dolls. But St. Joe's old standby for radio, K-JO (105.5, but then 105.1 still) was there. They've always been nominally a 'pop' station, but a little behind the times and with an odd slant. As Alt Rock was the outgoing popular style, it got play, but they did an odd way of keeping it 'current'. They played a lot of stuff from the Barenaked Ladies, REM, and the Wallflower that wasn't their 'normal' stuff; they played some bands that missed the heyday (Vertical Horrizon, Lifehouse) but could have been big. Looking back I really appreciate that good music, though at the time I bristled at it. And the more ecclectic, adult-contomporary slant of it probably even paved the way for me to more fully appreciate RP (which has been my main taste maker for 10 years now).

I feel the same way about them.  i swa them live a few month's prior to their second release and they were fantatstic.   On record they are very hit and miss for me.

Probably the band for whom my ratings are the most polar. I either love their stuff, or, well, the opposite .

Also, is it me or are the Wallflowers bordering on overplayed here on RP?  It seems like every day around this time there's something by them...

I get so sad over this band. "Bringing Down the Horse" is an incredible, beautiful work. Everything else they've done is just limp and lackluster.
