Sandy Denny's early death was a great loss to music. Fairport Convention was the group that brought early English and Irish music into the popular culture. A lot of bands we know today would not be possible without them. And Denny's voice rang clear and timeless in the best of their work. I miss her.

Beautiful song.

I know that it's 11 minutes or so, but "A Sailors Life" from Unhalfbricking is equally good - and has the added bonus of an extended Richard Thompson guitar as well.

I remember other songs that she recorded when she was with Pentangle and they were pretty good.

Songs, like this one,  pulled from deep and old archive are among the reasons why I love RP. This, about 40 years old.
She had the pipes but left us waaay too early.
This song is better than 5.8.

At first glance, I thought the album cover was Paul McCartney.

How cool is THAT?  Gotta go dig out my vinyl now.  I'd rated this song a 9, but in light of a lot of weirdness in my life (and, it seems, most other folks' lives), I bumped it to 10.  RIP, Ms. Denny. You are still alive at RP, and most of us love your voice and your legacy. {#Notworthy}

I have always considered this a beautiful composition and performance. As far as I can recall, this is the only place other than my record collection where I have heard the song. Makes this a pretty cool station.

Harsh, but I agree with you! To diss someone like Sandy Denny is to display a complete lack of musical culture. You don't have to like her music, but decency demands that you respect it.

???

I didn't know that music DEMANDED anything of us....

I can appreciate her voice, but I don't think that the source of my appreciation is "decency" or that the appreciation was as a result of her or your "demand."

I love Sandy Denny's voice, the harmonies...and especially the use of mandolin in this lovely song!
