I'll say, try Pete Barden's Camel.  FYI - his solo stuff is pretty good too.

Is it pompous or simply earnest?

Me too??? And I listened to the local album rock stations of the time...KSFM and KZAP (well, my older brothers did, and me by osmosis :)

Indeed.. This song crept into my mind and I had a sort-of flashback into the seventies. But then the song just keeps going on too long and you wish it wasn't so sentimental. Still deserve an 8, imo.

Yeah. What these guys said. Except I actually remember it. (Vaguely, maybe.....) Or, maybe I just remember remembering it........I think. But it was real good then......wasn't it?

This is like one of those camel rides in the desert where you start wondering if the camel knows how to get back to base before your haemmorhoids kick in.
I mean, it's not bad, just excruciatingly long for what it delivers.

First listen. In fact, the first I have heard of them. At first it sounded dated and I suppose some parts still do.  There seems to be a lot going on within this song, and a fair amount of it I like. Progressive?  Pretty much seems that way to me.
