Well, RP turned me 180 on Joan. I especially enjoy her latest album, which Bill features pretty frequently. I don't know the original version of this song, but I give Joan an 8 for it. |

You're right, it's not free. But paying money doesn't give anyone the right to be uncivil, rude and obnoxious as many of the people here are. For the life of me, I have no idea why some people post comments that they would never in a million years say to someone's face. That level of "discourse" doesn't help Bill and Rebecca improve the playlist, it only brands the commenter as ignorant and thus they probably get IGNORED.
For the record, I like the song.

Bill and Rebecca ask for our money so they can play music that we listen to. Part of that "subscription" is the right to bitch and moan and complain about the songs we think are crap. And also rave and praise the songs we love.
I give them a fair amount of money. More than what I would give sirius or XM. And in my honest "I paid for it" opinion, this song is lame.

My opinion: as with every open-source project it will get better with input and feedback, but there are some pretty harsh words being thrown about. If you think Joan missed with this one, so be it. But she gave it a shot according to her lights. And to the person who asked "Why did she bother?", I suspect because she liked the song and wanted to sing it and hoped that others would like it, too. "Why did she bother?" How does a comment like that help anything? Why does anyone bother?
Go RP. Go Bill. Go Rebecca.

ecorunner wrote:Thats not her style nor her strengths...Her voice needs to be in some song where she can let loose and be more edgy. Leave the folk to Emmylou Harris, Patti Griffin, and Gillian Welch. that's an interesting opinion. what is your most apparent style/strength? have you defined and fixed your boundries as well?

You know, hearing Dylan sing this makes sense. Even Garth Brooks. The simple lyrics, with a deep withered voice, are haunting. With a "pretty" voice and tarted-up production, the lyrics become cheesy, like a Hallmark card.

Don not forget that a HUGE part of Dylan's original was thanks to Daniel Lanois, who, by the way, had a boyhood home a few metres from I work in Gatineau (formerly Hull) Quebec. A charmant guy from a charmless town.

It's so sad that Ozzy never recognized her as his daughter. She would have been a bad ass heavy metal singer... better than Kelly. |

Mediocre cover by a mediocre musician of one of Dylan's less-good songs. Just dull as dishwater. Ug. Why bother? |

Yikes, what's with all the negative opinions.
I love the song and her rendition of it. I didn't know it was her. I thought, just before looking at this page:
"I love the way Emmy Lou Harris continues to incorporate Daniel Lanois's style from the Wrecking Ball days"

Bob Dylan, Bob Schmylan. The lyrics ARE juvenile. Why do people think Dylan is God? Moon. June. Spoon.

While it may not be her best work, I still like it. I also say bravo to her for trying something she doesn't normally do. We never learn anything about ourselves and our abilities until we challenge them.
