This isn't a song. It is a plodding beat with someone lazily playing some simplistic rhythm guitar over it. Even the vocalist doesn't really bother with a melody. Tedious and boring garbage. Sorry to be so tough but when there is so much great music around this has nothing going for it at all in my view.

This takes me back to High School more than just about any song.

I was a wrestler, and this was featured in the movie Vision Quest. Watched it about 1000 times.

Good Times! m/

That wonderfully badass guitar is what makes this one.

A big smile across my face when this one came on - part of growing up in Toronto. Haven't heard for ages but I see it's been played a bit. Bill, dying to know how this gets on your radar and inspires you bring it back 30 years later!

I saw Todd Rundgren, of all people, do a cover of this during his Arena tour a few years ago, he somehow segwayed into "when the walls came down"...pretty good show.

I remember hearing an interview with Tom Cochrane, and he was discussing this song.  As they were recording it, he was considering changing the lyrics and title, as Tom thought that people wouldn't "get it", that no one would relate to a "lunatic fringe".  Well, not just a day or two later, John Lennon was shot.  After that, they decided that the "lunatic fringe" would be something that people could see out there in the world, and the lyrics and title stuck.

I always thought that was an interesting bit of pop culture history.

Really?  This song hasn't been played enough on FM?  I listen to Radio Paradise to get away from this drivel.

It's the first time I've ever heard it, but crapola FM stations this side of the Pond play a different selection of clichés and drivel to those your side, I suspect. It's no' bad, and plainly strongly influenced by Pink Floyd, but won't linger long in the memory. 6 from the Nottingham jury.

For me is was 'lunatic Reds'.  I suppose if I ever had the album I would have figured out what it should have been.

Thanks to Canadian Content rules for over-the-air broadcast stations we get to hear this junk constantly up here in the Great White North.

Another good reason to listen to RP.   Variety!!!!!
