I remember seeing them in Seattle in 1975, right after the release of Crime of the Century. One of my favorite concerts, back when Roger & Rick still could work together -
I really think this was their peak artistically, with Breakfast in America being their peak commercially.

Waited till the end, enjoying every crystal clear sharp note and melody. Do I like it? ...

Fool's Overture from the same album would be a welcome addition too...

From the other comments, glad to see I'm not the only one who sat transfixed by this song for hours when it first came out... |

Most people seem to only like (or at least - prefer) what they liked in high school or college. That's a part of the reason why older generations will always denigrate the music of younger generations. |

You might be joking, but I am not so sure that tastes really form later on in life. I think the tastes of high school students are very important. They buy records, and they drive what gets exposure and eventual fame. When I was in HS many of the bands played here, new and unknown at the time, were loved by my fellow students. I am very suspicious about the entire notion of "learning to appreciate" some art form or another. There is always some agenda behind such efforts. |

This song doesn't get the time of day as other Supertramp tunes...especially since the release of 'Breakfast In America'...but this album is a gem and sadly overlooked by many...but not by Radio Paradise. Yippee!!!

Crossing over the St. John's river in an MG Midget convertible on the Buckman Bridge in Jacksonville listening to "Crime of the Century" at dusk on a fine Florida summer. 60 mph felt like 100. |
