I'll need Shallow Hal's Tony Robbins goggles to enjoy this song.

I never saw the movie, but came here to say how cookie-cutterish this song is. I concur with the Hootie comment. 2

It's actually the name of an album. Maybe you should use that cover art as a number of people can't get past the movie association. Ellis is very good. 8. He has many, many good songs.

I gave it a 5 for the lyrics, which I can really relate to. The song itself is oof ... I keep thinking of Hootie and the Blowfish being played on the loudspeaker at the Mall.

Can't quite place the accent, but I've never heard the like in a natural setting. Am I wrong to call this an affectation? |

Haven't seen the movie, because I didn't care for the premise. I don't know Ellis Paul's other work. But I have to say that this is one hell of a lyric, and that makes the song at least an 8 to me.
Bless your sweet mistakes That crumble you down to your knees; That brought you to this place, Changing you by degrees When change was just what you needed...

Love that verse! |

Less histrionic than that Buckley guy . . . but not enough so. No, not nearly enough.

It's a much more acoustic and thoughtfull than this, but I can't get enough of it. If you want something by him get Speed of Trees first, then get the live album.
Whilst his web site has a bizare low quality sampler of the live CD (Radio free Ellis) it's quality realy lets it down and loses most of the feeling that makes me like the album.
I just bought the Live album also--and have the same response--I keep playing both CD's over and over. |

I agree it reminds me of Angie as well (who is absolutely phenomenal live).
Maybe we could get a little Angie played on here? I would definitely prefer it over this one.
