To the previous comments about country....many people consider the writer of this song to be the founder of alt.country. It's not country, it's alt.

When people hear a lap- or pedal steel it's quickly considered country music. I do love country music in its purest form, not for 24 hours a day, but with the right dosis i love it. So much of music nowadays wouldn't exist if it wasn't for country music, so in some way many people like it i guess... Ow, and not everybody that likes country music is a cowboy... |

This is not country! The is nothing about mama, prison, drinkin, trucks, rain or prison. These are the only criteria I'm aware of. Now that that's off my chest I can say that this is an awesome song. |

Im inclined to agree with Enrique. Although it is an acquired taste. Son Volt achieves a poetic outlook through the voice of an outstanding country/bluesman.

These guys have long been one of my favorites. Great music for driving through the hills on back roads...along a mountain stream, and then grabbing a cheeseburger at some backwoods bar.
Amazing. Great taste, Bill!!

I'm a BIG fan of these guys, as well as their predecessor, Uncle Tupelo. This is actually one of their songs I like least, but it's still pretty good (or I got used to it from listening to the CD so much). I can't remember the name of the other Uncle Tupelo offspring, but if you play something by them and I like it, I may be in for a CD purchase or two.
