Brilliant improvisational work by Carter on this one. I prefer the album version, but still tasty.
I could do with less Dave scat and more Boyd, as usual. Quite likable.

I saw the Dave Matthews Band at Red Rocks in Denver, and they were $%$^^&%$# awsome, best god damn live band I have heard in a long time. Carter the drummer blew me away.

Just one more post from me on this song....
I caught VH1's Storytellers with Dave and Tim Reynolds and heard a rough version of this song with a slightly differnt chorus and a much different tempo. The lyrics went something like:
Bartender please, fill my glass for me, with the wine you gave Jesus that set him free after 3 days down.
Bartender please, roll one up for me, with the kind you gave Jesus that set him free after three days down.
It was interesting to hear how the song has evolved and it will be more interesting (to me) to hear what it sounds like on Busted Stuff. :)

Yep, it's Glen Ballard. Ditch, Grace, Bartender, Busted and many others from Lillywhites will be on the new album. I don't know about Kit Kat...
Also, you can now go to www.davematthewsband.com and listen to the new single, Where are you Going. It's a wonderful song. Check it out!! It will also be on the new album.

Do you know which songs are going to be ont he forthcoming album? From the Lillywhite Sessions, I hope 'Grace is Gone', 'Bartender', 'Digging a Ditch' and 'Kit Kat Jam' are on it. Any ideas? Also, who will produce? Will it be Glen Ballard again? (I take it Steve Lillywhite won't be, which is a shame.)

Yes, there are many live versions out there of this tune. I think this (recorded/studio) version is very good, but any live cut you can find will be better. I just heard Dave play this one live and it was FANTASTIC!

Carter is, as usual, EXCELLENT on this. Much better, in fact, than on Everyday. Great 'New Orleans'-style snare work, which would not normally work with a tension-filled song, but it does.
Plus, since he plays left-handed on a right-handed set, he can do "impossible" stuff like play a pattern on the ride with his left hand while doing a one-handed single stroke roll down on the snare and the toms with his right.
Us mere mortal right-handed drummers, even with years and years of practice/playing, can't.

i find the trend of the increasing amount of DMB being played here to be very worrying - "caterwauling" is how I describe his singing style :D :p
