It has just been too long...  this song is soooo marvelous... originally from 1982 in an album called After the Snow, it was re-recorded for this version in 1990 for an album called Pillow Lips...

love it...

Any kind nostalgia that exists for the original is obliterated by this version.

I would CERTAINLY be ashamed had I recorded such a STUUUUPID school-band song!

One of the most rediculous songs I have EVER heard on RP!

"Making love with you was never second best...!"

"The future is open wide...!"

Laughable!!

Doesn't even sound like the original vocalist to me.  Is it the same guy?

Wow, I feel so let down. That opening guitar promised me more than this lame cover could ever deliver.

This version is like MGD Light when the original was like Guiness.

"Watery and Insipid" vs "The Nectar of the Gods"

I miss the muddy drums coming out of the break.

My two cents.

This song was the theme song for my high school graduating class.  However I never managed to like it, despite that... or maybe because of that.

Never second best, maybe third or fourth. That is what I used to sing to my girlfriend back in the day.

My thoughts exactly...and I'll also add that this song in any version is so overplayed elsewhere that no one would miss it if it were clipped entirely from the playlist.

This song is nothing to sneeze at.  I would be willing to bet that this song (the original, that is) was the biggest cross-over hit for a ten year period.  I can think of no other song that was played in so many different places.
